Wd 1tb mybook world edition
The xfs volume was the one with all my data. Some posts mention Linux as being the way to go but there is no clear explanations on what should be done - last post on Linux mentions that this will not work for XFS which is contradictory to Mr.
I have used a copy of Acronis backup and restore to try to access a drive from a WD MyBook World 1 Blue lights and found that Acronis could read the data partition and display the folders.

Will give the software a try now… The Gparted software on the linux style boot wont reconise the data area as an XFS partition… Part of me thinks to try formatting to XFS format, then trying to use the XFS data recovery tool, but not sure if thats a real bad idea?!!!
Learn more. They let you store all your commonly used files, like music, videos, pictures, and maybe even spreadsheets and word processor documents, in a centralised location that is accessible from any computer connected to your home or office network or even from the Internet.
The latest addition to this fleet of undeniably desirable products is the Western Digital My Book World Edition that was just announced today.
Straight out the box, the My Book World Edition impresses with its beautiful glossy white exterior and subtle silver WD logos. If you do just find it distracting, though, it can be turned off in the menu. One thing that the slim and sleek profile does betray is the fact this only uses one hard drive.
This gives them a degree of data redundancy whereby if one hard drive fails the other still has all your data. This, in a world where more and more information about our lives is stored on our computers, is a very important consideration.
Initial setup is as easy as you would expect with just a power and network connection needed to get going. WD Discovery also makes it easy to map a network drive, browse the network shares, or create a shortcut, which again are tasks that can all be done manually if you so wish. To our eyes the basic view really did seem to be just that, offering very little in the way of any useful features, dumbed down or not.
I was close, but did not deduct an Egg for this. The length of the USB cable is relatively short 16". This is due in part because the drive obtains all power through USB. The up side is there is no need for a separate power cord or power supply which improves portability. WD does not include a case with the drive. The manual softcopy pdf file on the drive refers you to WD web site to purchase accessories separately.
I found it useful to purchase a case with an internal pocket to store the USB cable. Overall Review: 1. Backup software. There are numerous Backup software solutions for PCs. I prefer to just "drag and drop" files from my PC to my various external drives I own many drives from different vendors. The down side is you must manage the backups yourself and remember to do them periodically. This is my own personal preference and why the focus of my review has been the hardware.
Always remember any PC hardware can fail e. If you don't want to loose your your precious files, maintain at least two copies on different media. Its unlikely both copies will fail simultaneously excluding a fire or flood. Focus your backup on the files you created yourself e.
Most software and operating systems files can be restored from the original installation disks. All hard drives have delicate moving parts inside. This WD drive is very portable while powered off, but never move any hard drive while its in use.
Moving a drive while it is powered on can cause the drive to fail e. Copy don't move files to any new drive for the first few weeks to assure you didn't get a lemon drive.
Run the WD Lifeguard Diagnostics Utility to initially check out the drive, and again later, if you suspect the drive may be failing. At the risk of stating the obvious, if you password protect your drive, do NOT forget your password.
The only way to unlock the drive without the password is to reformat the entire drive. All your files will be lost. The up side is you have confidence nobody will have access to your files without the password not even you. A common drive capacity misunderstanding. Windows reports the capacity as GB not 1TB. This is because Windows reports drive capacity in binary, but drive vendors use decimal.
To convert the decimal capacity above to binary what Windows reports just divide the 13 digit decimal number above by three times to convert to GBs. You'll get: Do the math yourself, but use a scientific calculator or the one on your PC not an 8 digit pocket calculator. German Spanish Italian French. HGST Support. THanks, Sean. Good luck!! Thank you for your help! Saved all our baby pics. I got that last part figured out as well.
In case someone needs help in the future. Best of luck, Sean. Would it works if the drives were in RAID 0?? Thanks for posting this thread, it helped a lot. I also connected it straight to the mother board SATA connector with the same results. Thanks for any help you can offer….
