The Microsoft site said it was compatible but it would not work.

But the problem the same thing is not working in my personal laptop, it is with WIn 7 whereas the machine which is working with is WIn XP. Even i tried to see whether it is detecting in Itunes of my personal laptop, it is not getting detected and not getting charged also. It could be that the USB ports do not output enough power for the iPod to properly communicate with the laptop and charge.

In reply to jeffdb's post on August 18, Understanding that this issue is something to do with the "enhanced" USB drivers, I spotted an old USB hub lying around and had a brainwave; despite the advice about not using USB hubs with the iPod Shuffle, I connected the USB hub to my Windows 7 laptop, where it was recognised correctly, and I let it install, before then plugging in the iPod Shuffle into this hub.

Flushed with success, I ejected and unplugged everything, assuming that if I now plugged the iPod Shuffle directly into the Windows 7 laptop it would still see the iPod, having already seen it once, and be aware of it.
