Callaway razr fit driver review 2012
The sound and feel are very solid, you can really feel the ball compress on the face as it leaves at high speed. The sound is more of a muted crack and much quieter than I anticipated. If you practice on an enclosed range your ears will thank you for your choice in drivers.
Shots hit away from the center of the face retain a lot of ball speed and stay online really well. My miss is low on the heel and those misses stayed in the air fairly well and went a good ways. Shots hit down on the heel or higher on the toe side still stay online really well due to the Ridgeback spine and rear weight.
The C is just slightly higher than mid-launch for me, but the low spinning head never allowed my shots to balloon or rise even into the wind. I do wish the face was just a touch deeper as I had to play with my tee height in order to find the optimal setup. The better players will enjoy the neutral weighting and there seems to be very minimal draw built into the driver. Overall, the Tour Edge Exotics C driver is a great club that will probably be overlooked by too many golfers.
If you are looking for added distance, a lot of forgiveness and want to keep some money in your pocket, then you should seriously take a look at Tour Edge. Super low-spin drivers were all the rage at the time. With their forward center of gravity, they were helping golfers optimize their launch conditions beyond their wildest dreams: crazy high launch, ridiculously low spin.
Many in the business, including myself, had one of these drivers and spent many launch monitor sessions trying to figure out how to get more distance from these high knuckleballs. The bad news was that forward-CG drivers, by nature, were really unforgiving. Bad shots were really short and crooked. Its CG was located as low and as rearward in the driver head as possible, which he said would offer the best of both worlds: optimized launch conditions on good shots, as well as the best possible forgiveness on bad shots.
Building the perfect driver was a long way off and still is , but Jertson was excited where Ping had landed with the G When it was released , the driver was a powerful testament to his vision. Its rear-CG design created great distance on good and bad shots, and it was also a very straight driver. The G30 sold incredibly well and, as a result, the industry mostly shifted away from forward-CG drivers.
The company shrunk the size of its new G drivers in a climate where full-size drivers have become the norm. Despite their slimmer frames, however, the G drivers are actually more forgiving than the G drivers which were even more forgiving than the G The drivers have the lowest, most rearward CG of any Ping drivers ever, and their smaller size is said to improve their aerodynamics so golfers can swing them fractionally faster.
I hit five shots with each driver on Trackman IV, and to ensure as much of an apples-to-apples comparison as possible, I tested each driver head with the same shaft.
Each driver head was adjusted to the same loft, or as close as possible. The G LST had a loft of 10 degrees, and it was adjusted to 9. Improvements generally come in the form of improved head shaping, a better feel, or enhanced adjustability. That led to a significant improvement in distance. With my swing speed and ball speed staying about the same, I added an average of 7.
I saw an average of a 1. The result was an average of 6. It was the longest and straightest driver I hit in the test.
One way to explain the improved launch conditions is that I hit the G drivers more consistently. Is that its slightly enhanced forgiveness shining through? Maybe, maybe not. To me, the changes Ping made to the look and feel of the driver were just as important as the performance difference I saw on Trackman. For that reason, I felt more confident with the G drivers in my hands.
I was sold on the looks alone. I also preferred the sound of the G drivers to the G drivers. Looks and feel are subjective, of course, but to me the improvement was night and day.
I do want readers to keep in mind that this was a one-person test and I hit a limited amount of balls. I also want to address the weaknesses of the G drivers. A bigger deal for some golfers might be the G crowns. Maybe the improved forgiveness will show up on a launch monitor or on the course.

It does generate some awesome ball speeds off the face. I think I'm going to get one. Titleist TSi 2 Fairway Wood, Zip it Amigo! Phil aside I am loving mine also.
With the DI7 I'm hitting more fairways for sure. I initially had it set with a draw bias in the neutral setting, but the 8. I wanted to see if closing the face would make a big difference. I started hitting some really bad pulls, so I tried switching to neutral weighting. Did you notice anything along those lines? I got better ballflight, but the feel was just odd. It got really loud too. Has anyone had a similar experience? Taylormade OG Sim I totally agree.
Changing the weights changes the sound. At first, I really liked the sound with , howeve changing the weights back to , while giving to me, a higher pitched metallic sound, it felt great with the results I was getting. Well, in the end, results are more important to me. I'll try to live with it. I'm just amazed how much distance I get off of my poor shots. Especially off the heal. Downwind a bit on 1 at Harding Park, had 64 yards left. The potential of the club is absurd!!
If I were to cut my shaft down from If you did more than cut the shaft down would you tell me what it was, so I won't get anything out of whack i need a high launch, since my swing speed is around 85 mph.
Wow, sweet combo. Good review golfware. Is this longer than a D3? The effects of the adjustments on ball flight are noticeable, but we think better players would prefer an extra option or two in the shaft settings for a little more fine tuning.
Have just added this driver to my clubs to replace an old second hand McGregor. Absolutely love it, has made a big difference already. Like the way the club looks and feels and with the adjustability would certainly recommend this to anyone. Longest driver I've had. Upgraded from the R9 SuperTri and it feels pingier off the face and according to my GPS is 20 yards longer - in the winter weather. This is a great driver- at address it is very sleek looking and increases confidence.
I know its Callaway's first time with adjustability and people have said its a bit late but I find they have done a great job, as it is simple and changes make a noteable difference.
Find the driver is very easy to shape either way aswell. Not only that my spin rate for the razr was under , the taylormades were both over Finally, and most importantly I didnt once hit the razr off line. Taylormade I had to hit it several more times to try to get the correct ball flight just to compare distance. Hands down for me, as much as I want a cool looking white driver.
Maybe but I like the calleway arrow better! Just bought this driver, along with the True Aim alignment aid…. My initial thoughts are that the shaft feels a bit soft for a R flex, but honestly that is probably exactly what a short hitter like me needs. I demoed this club at the Callaway Center in Vegas.
The stock shaft feels to me like PVC pipe, and that combined with the head material made it very difficult for me to get good feedback on shots. It bothers me that Callaway and TMAG put such mediocre stock shafts in their premium priced flagship drivers. Love, Love, Love the review and comments! I am definately going to have to go and get fitted for one! I ordered mine with a Mitsubishi Ilima shaft cut down to I highly recommend everybody get fit for a custom shaft, it makes a big difference!!
I love this club!! At this low cost as compared to all the others, I think a lot of golfers would be looking at it.
However, there is absolutely no marketing. All because of your testing…. So, with that in mind, do you have anything in the works on the newest P. Air Force Air Foil? Air Foil? Buy stock never sucked so much? I have been playing the Razr Fit driver for about a month now. It is by far the best driver that I have ever had in the bag!
Thought Razr Hawk was tough to beat. You are just teasing me with it. It is not here yet. I know I have been sitting by the door and looking every time I hear someone driving by I hope it is this driver. I was excited before but now I may not be able to sleep at night. Just wondering if it beats out the Bridgestone J40 that you reviewed earlier in the year? You said the J40 dethroned the Adams D that stood atop the mountain for 70 weeks or something…. Love the Razr Fit but is the J40 better???
They are definitely two very different drivers.. Along with the J40 being a one-piece driver vs. These are two very different animals. And while I guess no driver is truly right for everyone, the RAZR Fit, especially when you factor in the adjustability aspect, is clearly designed with the masses in mind.
Sure hope the dream is reality I the this case? But will. When my fitter gets their damn shafts in from cally!
Or its off to hagging oaks in about 2 weeks, when Masters fever hits! Dumped my R11 for razor fit. I got fitted and the ust pro force axiv core 69 stiff and Love the sound and feel way better than my R I have been bombing the drives and have been really accurate.
I also hit one from the deck today Definitely recommend this club. Do yourself a favor and get fitted the shaft can make a huge difference. Another great review. I love my RF and it kicked my Razr Hawk out of the bag. All clubs receiving highly favorable reviews from MGS.
Favorite driver to date. Hands down. Significant improvement in distance and accuracy vs. Damn you GolfSpy! Could be another expensive year! Notify me of followup comments via e-mail.
